BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

This contract is for the construction of the Hucks Road Community Park located at 5435 Hucks Road. The project is a new park located across Hucks Road from Clarks Creek Nature Preserve. The work consists of installation of new park amenities including a playground, sprayground, picnic shelter, restroom facilities, fenced large and small dog parks, pickleball courts, basketball court, community gardens, walking trails, landscaping, and parking facilities.

 

 

PROCUREMENT BACKGROUND:

On October 26, 2017, Mecklenburg County Asset and Facility Management advertised the project in The Charlotte Observer, The Charlotte Post, and the State Interactive Purchasing website. The documents were also available for viewing at the Mecklenburg County M/W/SBE office, Metrolina Minority Contractors Association, and the Hispanic Contractors Association of the Carolinas. A pre-bid meeting was held on November 2, 2017. Four (4) valid, single prime, lump sum bids were received on November 28, 2017 for the proposed park construction work. Sossamon Construction Co., Inc. was the low bidder in the amount of $2,462,000, based on the County’s decision to select all four (4) alternates.
