3. Close public hearing on proposed LESD Within The Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Area of the Town of Pineville and adopt resolution, titled "Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners Resolution Creating the Town of Pineville Law Enforcement Service District"

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
In 1996 the Board of Commissioners created a single law enforcement service district for the entire unincorporated area of the County to allow levy of a law enforcement service district tax just in that area to be used to pay the City of Charlotte for providing law enforcement services to the area pursuant to a contract between the County and the City (the 1993 “Agreement Between the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County for the Consolidation of the Charlotte and Mecklenburg County Police Departments” (“Original Agreement).

On April 18, 2017, the Board of County Commissioners terminated the agreement effective June 30, 2018.

On February 20, 2018, the Board adopted a resolution authorizing the County Manager to start the process for creating six (6) law enforcement service districts, to become effective July 1, 2018.

The separate Interlocal Agreement with the Town of Pineville allows the Town to provide law enforcement services within the ETJ area of the Town.
