BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

The current fee that is charged by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for the service of out of state and federal summons and complaints is fifty dollars ($50.00). The last time the MCSO requested to increase the service fee for out of state and federal summons and complaints was in 1992.  Based on a recent research and review conducted by the MCSO’s Civil Judgment Unit, many counties in the state of North Carolina are charging a fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) for the service of out of state and federal complaints and summons.  The MCSO is requesting the Board of County Commissioners to adopt a resolution approving the increase of service fee for all out of state and federal Summons and Complaints from fifty dollars ($50.00) to one hundred dollars ($100.00).
