ACTION:

A)  Affirm submission of a grant application to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for up to $7,049,992 for funding for HIV positive patients in the Transitional Grant Area; and

 

B)  Recognize, receive and appropriate the award amount in the General Grant Fund (G001); and

 

C)  Approve the allocation process involving regional participation in accordance with HRSA of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services guidelines

 

D)  Adopt the required grant project ordinance for U.S. Department of Health and HRSA Grant in the General Grant Fund (G001).

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

Under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act of 2009, Part A funds are awarded by HRSA to serve HIV positive patients. Ryan White year eighteen (18) funds were awarded to Mecklenburg County. Funds will be used for patients in the Transitional grant Area (TGA) consisting of the following counties: Mecklenburg, Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Union, and York, SC. Ryan White. Part A funding is used to assist this six-county region in developing and enhancing access to a comprehensive continuum of high quality, community-based care for low-income individuals and families with HIV disease. In the current year seventeen, fourteen (14) providers in our region are providing medical or support related services to 3,349 HIV clients during the first 10 months of the year, as of December 31, 2023.
