Summary

ACTION:

1.  Approve a grant application of up to $5,000 for a NC General Purpose Grant for the North Mecklenburg Senior Center;

 

2.  Approve a grant application of up to $15,000 for a NC General Purpose Grant for the Tyvola Senior Center;

 

3.  Approve a grant application of up to $15,000 for a NC General Purpose Grant for the Shamrock Senior Center; and

 

4.  If awarded, receive such funds

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

 

1.  Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is requesting approval to apply for and receive, if awarded, a North Carolina Senior Center General Purpose grant up to $5,000.  The grant awards will be distributed in FY2020 and will be used to continue existing programming at the North Mecklenburg Senior Center.  The required 25% match will be fulfilled with salaries of North Mecklenburg Senior Center staff. Application for the grant must be submitted to the Area Agency on Aging by August 23, 2019, but the grant covers expenses back to July 1, 2019.

Programming requirements are dictated by the state and measured by the Senior Center Operations and Program Evaluation (SCOPE) tool.  Programming at all locations include Information and Referral Services, Health Screenings, Fitness and Health Promotions, Classes, Social Activities and Day Trips.
