BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

Park and Recreation would like to acquire Tax Parcels 009-111-20,009-111-27, and 009-111-33 (+/- 3.187 acres) for addition to North Mecklenburg Park.  North Mecklenburg Park is located in the Town of Huntersville.  It is south out Sam Furr Road (Hwy 73) with frontage on Old Statesville Road.  The existing park is 95 acres which is just shy of the minimum size for a regional park.  Acquisition of this property will get the closer to that size minimum.  Additionally, the property will provide increased buffer area between the park’s existing amenities and the housing development to the south of the park.

The property was appraised at $260,000.  The owner has agreed to sell the property at the appraised value. The property is improved with a single-family home that will demolished upon acquisition.  Closing on the property is contingent upon satisfactory environmental testing and completion of the mandatory referral process.

The Board approved the acquisition in Closed Session on June 18, 2019. Open Session approval is required.
