NEW ITEM: Budget Amendment Department of Social Services (Carry Forward of Unspent Funds)

Summary

ACTION:

Approve carry forward of unspent County funds in the amount of $350,000 in the Youth and Family Services Division of the Department of Social Services budget for a short term residential program for juveniles involved with the Mecklenburg County Department of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice (DACJJ)

Staff Contact:                      Peggy Eagan, Director of Social Services

Presentation:                      No

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

These funds will provide matching funds for Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) grant funding for a residential program provided by Thompson Child and Family Focus.  The program will provide trauma-informed, short term emergency residential services dedicated to juveniles ages 6-17 involved with Mecklenburg County DACJJ only. This program will not be available to the general public and operate with a “no eject, no reject” policy, meaning if there is an open bed it will go to youth referred from DACJJ. Thompson will leverage Medicaid and other funding streams to provide an overlay of essential mental health services.
