BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste applied for grant funding to purchase one Marathon RJ-250SC-34 Yard Signature Series Roll Off Self-Contained Compactor from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).  The addition of a new recycling compactor would enhance and support current recycling infrastructure and make the transportation aspect more efficient.

An application for the NC DEQ Community Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant was sent to DEQ on February 22, 2019.  The grant request was for $20,000 to assist in the purchase and installation of a new recycling compactor at the North Meck Full-Service Drop-Off Center.  On April 12, 2019, Mecklenburg County Solid Waste was awarded $8,000 from DEQ for the request.  The Solid Waste Management Division is seeking authorization to accept and utilize the award.
