BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

The County has pursued acquisition of Tax Parcels 013-024-36 (±0.234 acres), 013-024-37 (±0.237 acres), 013-024-38 (±0.234 acres), 013-024-39 (±0.286 acres), 013-024-12 (±0.454 acres) through the tax foreclosure process to add to Auten Nature Preserve. The properties are located in the Town of Huntersville on an unopened right of way known as Pamela Street Extension. The properties are surrounded by Auten Nature Preserve and acquisition of them would help achieve continuous, uninterrupted ownership for the nature preserve in the area.

 

On December 18, 2018, the Board authorized staff to bid up to $106,250 for all the tax parcels. Prior to the auction date being set, the owner of Tax Parcels 013-024-36, 013-024-37, 013-024-38 and 013-024-39 paid all the back taxes owed on the properties thereby making a tax foreclosure auction unnecessary.  The remaining property (Tax Parcel 013-024-12) was auctioned for back taxes on April 12, 2019. The County submitted a total initial bid of $8,000 which was not upset. The total purchase price of $8,000 will cover back taxes, legal fees and court costs associated with the closing.

 

The Board must vote to approve the final purchase price of $8,000 for tax parcel 013-024-12 to complete the transaction. The purchase amount will come from the approved Land Account.
