BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

This contract is for fabrication and installation of an aquarium, which will be an interactive living stream in the new Nature Center. The project is under construction and located in the Stevens Creek Nature Preserve (15700 Thompson Road, Mint Hill).

 

 

PROCUREMENT BACKGROUND:

The project was advertised in the Charlotte Post, the Greater Diversity News, and the North Carolina Interactive Purchasing System on November 22, 2018, and the Charlotte Observer on November 25, 2018. A Pre-Bid Meeting was held on November 29, 2018. Three bids were received and opened on January 3, 2019. Based on the lump sum bid plus the contingency allowance, the low bidder is Innovative Acrylics, LLC in the amount of $197,682.68.

Subcontractors  MBE 0%  WBE 0%  SBE 38%

 

The Prime Contractor located in Tampa, Florida is self-performing 62% of the work and subcontracting 38% of the work. Subcontractors include Queen Boss Properties, LLC, an SBE located in Huntersville, North Carolina, which is providing shotcrete (15% of the work). Country Critters of Long Island, Inc., which is an SBE  located in Patchoque, NY, is providing Life Support Systems, including pumps, filters, and related accessories (23% of the work).

 

The Prime Contractor contacted multiple companies to perform work on this project, but these are the only two that responded.
