BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department provides quality youth sports programs for the residents of Mecklenburg County.  These programs provide the youth of our community with valuable opportunities for social growth and development, encourages cooperation through teamwork, and most importantly, instills key health and fitness concepts that will foster the development of healthy and active lifestyles.  As a result, the Department has developed a Youth Sports Scholarship Fund to help deserving community members, such as the youth in our limited resources communities, to overcome the financial barrier that is preventing them from benefiting from these valuable opportunities.

Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated has donated $20,000 to Park and Recreation's Youth Sports Scholarship Fund.  The funds will be used to help offset the cost of programs for our youth to participate in many of our summer camp programs including, but not limited to: youth sports, field trips and traditional day camps.  To qualify, the youth must meet certain income criteria.
