BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Charlotte Observer Summer Camp Fund (COSCF) awards grants to summer camps to provide scholarships to low-income children in grades K-12. Grants must be used to expand the opportunities available to low-income campers. The goals of the COSCF are to help children develop a love of the outdoors, encourage continued learning through the summer, and to expand children’s vision of what could be. The COSCF is grounded in the belief that low-income youth should have the opportunity to enjoy a summer camp experience that mirrors enrichment programs accessed by their middle and upper income peers. This grant will allow Park and Recreation staff to provide up to twenty-nine (29) 100% scholarships to low-income children for 4 weeks of nature-based summer camp.
In 2018, Park and Recreation received $8,160 from the COSCF which funded scholarships for twelve (12) children to participate in the 4-week camp session.
The grant submission deadline is January 31, 2019.
