BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

At its August 14, 2018 meeting, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education (“CMBE”) declared its intent to sell the subject parcel to the Town of Davidson, contingent upon the County declining its statutory right of first refusal. The subject parcel is located on South Street in the Town of Davidson and once served as Davidson IB School.  Davidson IB dates back to the late 1930s. CMS ceased operating a school at the site in 2011. Since CMS vacated the property, the site has been leased by Lake Norman Christian School, however, that lease terminated on June 15, 2018.

Discussions between CMS and the Town resulted in an agreement for the Town to purchase the property for a sales price of $2,460,000.  The Town intends to renovate the property and use it for Town offices.  The County’s Asset and Facility Management Department has determined that the County has no business need to acquire the property; thus, recommends that the Board decline its right of first refusal.  Doing so will allow CMS to proceed with selling the property to the Town of Davidson.
