Donation of Outdoor Play Equipment from the Carolina Panthers (Park and Recreation)
Summary
ACTION:
Recognize and receive a donation of outdoor play equipment as replacement of the existing Play60 equipment at Freedom Park valued at $225,000
Staff Contact: Peter Cook - Division Director of Park Operations
Presentation: No
BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Carolina Panthers are donating a Play60 playground with a value of $225,000 for installation at Freedom Park. Several existing amenities will remain, but new amenities and surfacing will be added and incorporated into a new design.
The Carolina Panthers have worked with Park and Recreation in the past for previous donations including NFL Play 60 playgrounds at Reedy Creek Park and Hornet's Nest Park. Freedom Park was the original Play60 in the County and heavy use has made repairs necessary. This partnership has allowed for the County to offer alternative fitness and play opportunities to children and adults. These Play60 units usually include multiple obstacles, a 40-yard dash with time clock, and an interactive Carolina Panthers display. The project would be completed late summer to fall of 2018.
