BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
This contract is for the Latta Plantation Nature Preserve Visitors Center project located at 6345 Sample Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. The project includes construction of a new building to be used as a visitor orientation center for activities available throughout the nature preserve, as well as exhibit space. The Carolina Raptor Center, which will be co-located within the new building, has partnered with Mecklenburg County to develop this project. Amenities include: lobby/reception, an exhibit hall, classrooms, gift shop, warming kitchen, office space, conference rooms, restrooms, parking, exterior learning areas, and construction of a new entrance gateway located on Sample Road leading into the nature preserve.
PROCUREMENT BACKGROUND:
The project was advertised on the North Carolina Interactive Purchasing System website, The Charlotte Post, and The Charlotte Observer on January 19, 2018. A pre-bid meeting was held on February 8, 2018. The project was bid on March 1, 2018, and ten bids were received.
Based on the lump sum bid amounts, the low bidder is W.C. Construction Company, LLC. with a proposal in the amount of $5,374,908.
