BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

This contract is for the construction of the Traffic Improvements at Marion Diehl Center project located at 2229 Tyvola Road. The project is funded through an NCDOT grant with a match by the City of Charlotte (no County funding is required). Mecklenburg County Asset and Facility Management is managing the project. It includes removing the median and installing signal lights at the existing access to the Queens University Athletic facilities/Marion Diehl Recreation Center and the new access for the trailhead for the Little Sugar Creek Greenway.

 

PROCUREMENT BACKGROUND:

On January 4, 2018, Mecklenburg County Asset and Facility Management advertised the project in The Charlotte Observer, The Charlotte Post, and the State Interactive Purchasing website. The documents were also available for viewing at the Mecklenburg County M/W/SBE office, Metrolina Minority Contractors Association, and the Hispanic Contractors Association of the Carolinas. Bids were due on February 22, 2018. Only one (1) bid was submitted for the project. The project was re-advertised February 26, 2018 through the same methods as the initial advertisement. Two (2) valid bids were received on March 6, 2018 for the project. Dakota Contracting Company was the low bidder in the amount of $647,747.98 based on the unit prices provided on the bid form.
