BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Mecklenburg County Health Department is requesting approval to apply for renewal funding from Smart Start of Mecklenburg County for funding for the period July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. The Health Department has been a grant recipient of Smart Start funding since 1995. Grant funds will be used to support the following programs:
1. Healthy Families Mecklenburg ($548,873) to provide intensive interventions with at-risk first-time mothers to promote healthy parenting skills and early childhood development. The funding will continue to support 6 positions for this program.
2. Childcare Health Consultants ($300,801) to provide site assessment, consultation and training for childcare providers, ensuring that the environment is safe, healthy and meets standards. The funding will continue to support 3.5 positions for this program.
