BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Females between the ages of 16 - 24 experience intimate partner violence at a rate triple the national average. In order to raise community awareness about the prevalence of teen dating violence and everyone's right to a safe and healthy relationship, Mecklenburg County, in concert with the City of Charlotte, proclaims February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. During this time all residents are urged to work toward ending the violence by empowering young people to develop healthier relationships and instituting effective intervention and prevention policies in schools, among other activities, to promote awareness.
