BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
At the end of 2016, an estimated 34,187 people in North Carolina were living with HIV. Of those, nearly 1 in 5 (over 6,600 people) reside in Mecklenburg. In Wake County, with essentially the same population size, over 3,700 people are currently living with HIV. In addition to the burden of HIV and HIV related disparities, syphilis infections in Mecklenburg County are on the rise. This presentation will discuss our current reality and the efforts to address the situation throughout the County.
