BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

Over the last year or so, Mecklenburg County has experienced a significant uptick in the number of deaths due to opioid overdose. Not only has the crisis affected the community, but it has also resulted in an impact on several County departments. In January 2017, the Public Health Department presented to the Board of County Commissioners - Health & Human Services Committee an update on activity occurring around the opioid crisis. Since that time, several County Commissioners have expressed interest in gaining understanding of what is occurring within Mecklenburg County. The presentation will be done by several department representatives to inform the Board of the crisis in the community.
