ACTION:
(A) Affirm the acceptance of two grant awards from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS), Division of Public Health (DPH) Nutrition Services Branch in the amount of $226,092.
(B) Amend the FY 2020-2021 annual budget ordinance to recognize, receive and appropriate funds for the amount awarded to the General Fund (0001)

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Mecklenburg County Health Department WIC Program has been awarded $122,438 from NC DHHS, DPH - Nutrition Services Branch for a WIC Special Funding Opportunity - Phase 1 grant. This first phase will address barriers related to COVID-19. The funds will be used for contractual staffing, purchasing protective masks and mailing of materials to WIC participants.
The Department WIC Program was awarded Phase 2 of the WIC Special Funding Opportunity in the amount of $103,654. The grant award allows for purchase of 60 laptop computers and 20 printers. Laptops will be used by WIC staff to work remotely from home during COVID 19 or any other unforeseen events.
