Grant Application - Family Violence Prevention Services Act (FVPSA)

ACTION:
1) Affirm the submission of a grant application for up to $100,000 to the North Carolina Council for Women and Youth Involvement Office, the administrator of the North Carolina Family Violence Prevention Services Act (FVPSA) grant program, for prevention of domestic violence and teen dating violence.
2) Recognize, receive and appropriate the award amount to the General Grants
Funds (G001) within Community Support Services; and
3) Adopt a grant project ordinance for the FVPSA grant in the General Grant Fund (G001).

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Adolescents experience violence from a wide range of perpetrators that may include family members and dating partners. Adolescent victims experience fear and shame, and social norms that may discourage them from seeking help. Through this funding, Community Support Services will maintain and enhance provision of teen dating violence prevention information to a wide variety of audiences, including youth, parents, and service providers. CSS will continue to educate youth in the community and at Charlotte Mecklenburg middle school and high school levels. The award project period is October 1, 2023 through August 31, 2024. Retroactive pre-award costs incurred from October 1, 2023 through the date of the notification letter (January 8, 2024) are allowed.
Match requirements will be met through already budgeted salary.
