BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
M/I Homes of Charlotte, LLC, developer, of the Farrington single-family residential community, has proposed donating Tax Parcels 015-132-79, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87 and 015-133-61, 62 (+/- 2.671 acres), for future McDowell Creek Greenway in the Town of Huntersville, as required for rezoning purposes. The community is situated off Mcllwaine Road near both Latta Nature Preserve and McIlwaine Park (undeveloped), with single-family residential communities surrounding. The land is vacant and covered in tree canopy with McDowell Creek running adjacent.
The Donation by M/I Homes of Charlotte, LLC, will allow the County to construct an expansion of the future greenway in this area and provide access for the residents in the Farrington single-family residential development.
The donation is consistent with Park and Recreation’s Greenway Master Plan that calls for the addition of parkland, greenway and open space within the County. It is also consistent with the County’s Environmental Leadership Action Plan.
