BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

North Carolina General Statute §153A-225 requires each county operating a local confinement facility to develop a plan for providing medical care to incarcerated persons. The statute requires the plan to address medical supervision and emergency care, communicable disease prevention and treatment, and other measures necessary to protect the health and welfare of individuals in custody. The plan must be approved by the local health director upon determination that it is adequate to protect the health and welfare of incarcerated persons and subsequently adopted by the governing body.

The Health Director has reviewed the plan and determined it is adequate and recommends adoption by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners as required by N.C.G.S. § 153A-225.
