ACTION:
1) Approve the submission of a grant application to U.S. Department of Justice- Office of Community Oriented Policing Services- LEMHWA grant in the amount of up to $200,000 dollars; and
2) If awarded, adopt a grant project ordinance for the LEMHWA- U.S. Department of Justice grant in the General Grants Fund (G001); and
3) If awarded, recognize, receive, and appropriate awarded funds to the General Grants Fund (G001).

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
The Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) funds will be utilized to improve the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) staff, through providing funds for training peer support team members, wellness programming and services for agency staff, and the purchase of an industry leading wellness app. The wellness app will provide 24/7 access to wellness resources for agency staff and family members. The funding of this grant aligns with the MCSO strategic plan strategy 1.2.B to Implement an employee peer support program, with the goal of institutionalizing a culture of wellness within the agency.
The deadline for the grant submission is April 30, 2024.
