BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

National Kinship Care Month is celebrated each September to honor the vital role of relatives, fictive kin, and other family members who step forward to care for children.  Kinship month raises awareness about the strengths and positive impact of kinship care on children, and how communities can support the unique needs of kinship families.  Across the United States, more than 2.7 million children are living in kinship care, including approximately 85,000 young people in North Carolina.
