Staff Contact: Kimberly Henderson, Director, Child, Family and Adult Services
Presentation: Yes
BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In partnership with Alliance Health, the County departments engaged in mental health services and supports request that the BOCC proclaim May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Mecklenburg County. The County has identified behavioral health as one of the key priorities for the FY26 year. In addition, the County completed its Behavioral Health Strategic Plan in 2024 and is nearing the start of plan implementation. Behavioral health prevention, services and supports require collaborative efforts from entities such as Alliance and the County, but also from community-based organizations. The proclamation represents Mecklenburg County’s recognition of the importance of mental health awareness and serves to demonstrate our commitment to partnership with and support of residents with mental health needs and the managed care and provider community.
