BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

The Gun Violence Prevention Art Installation was a pilot visual awareness campaign that aligned to one of the Mecklenburg County COVID-19 Renewal and Recovery Task Force’s recommendations. The Task Force identified an opportunity to “connect with visual art professional and students, schools, universities, organizations and street artists to create educational content via neighborhood art.”  More specifically, the Task Force action calls for art to be created to promote health care access, positive healthy habits, safety and prevention, and treatment/care options.  In response to this suggestion, the County’s Public Health and Park & Recreation leadership collaborated on this pilot initiative.
