BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS) is the public transportation provider for Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. MTS provides community-based public transportation services that connect residents to employment, education, healthcare, human services, shopping, civic activities, and regional transportation connections. MTS became a direct Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recipient on November 19, 2020, and continues to coordinate with North Carolina Division of Transportation (NCDOT) Integrated Mobility Division, regional Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO), and local partners to maintain safe and compliant transportation operations.

MTS' mission is to provide efficient, safe and courteous specialized transportation services throughout Mecklenburg County and the surrounding community.

The Transportation Advisory Board acting in an advisory capacity to MTS, provides citizen input and evaluation of transportation services for Mecklenburg County residents. The bylaws have been updated for the first time since March 2009 and fulfills the requirement of NCDOT rules mandating that local systems establish an active TAB that meets at least quarterly. It also complies with 42 CFR Part 431.53 that requires jurisdictions to provide transportation for Medicaid beneficiaries to receive transportation to medical appointments.
