BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

Park and Recreation is requesting approval to acquire a Permanent Access Easement (+/- 0.091 acres) and Temporary Access Easement (+/- 0.054 acres) over a portion of McKee Elementary School for access to the future dog park at McKee Road Park.

McKee Road Park is an existing 20-acre Mecklenburg County Park located at 4201 McKee Road, Charlotte, NC 28270. The park currently includes multi-purpose fields, open space, woodlands and parking. There is a County-funded budget of $339,262.00 to construct the new dog park. Construction is anticipated to begin fall of 2026 and completion is expected in spring of 2027. The easements are required to access and construct the new dog park.

Mecklenburg County is working to expand available dog parks throughout the County. Dog parks were identified as a priority amenity in Meck Playbook for investment based on community demand and limited existing sites throughout the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation system. CMS has agreed to donate the easements to the County.
