ACTION:

Authorize the County Manager to negotiate and execute all documents necessary for the acquisition of the following property in the Town of Huntersville for Park and Recreation purposes.

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

On May 21, 2024, the Board authorized staff to bid on a property at a tax foreclosure sale. The property consists of tax parcel 015-424-94 with approximately ±13.39 acres of land. The property is in the Town of Huntersville and will be used for Park and Recreation purposes, for the McDowell Creek Greenway project.

 

On May 22, 2024, the property was auctioned for back taxes. The County was the highest bidder for the property. The final purchase price is $70,000 and will cover back taxes, court costs, and legal fees.

 

The Board must vote to approve the final purchase price to complete the transaction.

 

This acquisition is consistent with Meck Playbook, the Greenway Master Plan, and the County’s Environmental Leadership Policy.
