BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
Adult Care Home and Nursing Home Advisory Committees perform a critical public service by advocating for some of Mecklenburg County's most vulnerable residents. Committee members conduct regular visits to licensed facilities, monitor the quality of care and residents' rights, identify concerns, and serve as an important liaison between residents, facilities, and the community. Their work helps promote accountability, transparency and the overall well-being of residents in long-term settings.
Currently, the County is experiencing a significant number of vacancies on these two advisory committees. Recruitment has proven challenging due to the time commitment, required training, and the nature of the work. Providing a one-time appointment bonus would serve as an incentive to attract qualified applicants, increase membership, and strengthen the County's ability to meet its responsibilities in overseeing and supporting these essential advisory committees.
