BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
On June 2, 2020, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners established the COVID-19 Recovery and Renewal Task Force for the purpose of addressing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Mecklenburg County. On June 23, 2020, the Commissioners were provided candidate applications and resumes. Commissioners submitted their written nominations to the Clerk on June 26, 2020. The results of the nominations are listed in the attachments.
Purpose
The Task Force's work is to support the recovery and renewal of Mecklenburg County from the COVID-19 pandemic and shall be governed by the following guiding principles: (a) that recovery and renewal should not be a return to "business as usual"; (b) that recovery and renewal, above all, must be guided by an adherence to public health and scientific expertise, in order to assure the safety of those who live in our County; (c) that excellent public services, public investment and increased community resilience will form the most effective basis for recovery and renewal; and (d) that recovery and renewal must address issues of inequity that have been revealed by the impact of the crisis.
The Task Force shall examine and help address COVID-19 impact issues that are specific to employees, businesses, public health, education, the economy, and the overall well-being of the residents in Mecklenburg County, and shall strategize around policy considerations for the development of a comprehensive Recovery and Renewal Plan of Action (or a limited series of plans) to be presented and recommended to the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners for consideration in the following substantiv...
