Presentation:            Yes____    No __X__

BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
One of the critical pieces of operating equipment at the County's Foxhole Landfill is a landfill compactor.  Unlike the other operating equipment at a landfill such as bulldozers, tracked excavators, and dump trucks, the compactor is unique to landfill operation.  This uniqueness means that a rental replacement is difficult to secure in the event of equipment breakdown.  For this reason, Solid Waste always maintains a spare landfill compactor on site.  The BOCC recently approved the purchase of a new Caterpillar 826H Landfill Compactor for $566,288.  With this acquisition, Solid Waste plans to move the current primary Caterpillar 826G Landfill Compactor to reserve duty.  This transfer of monies will fund a certified rebuild of the existing landfill compactor into like-new condition that will enable it to serve as the reserve unit for years to come.
