BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

The Board of County Commissioners recognizes Homeless Awareness Month to raise awareness of the needs of homeless individuals and families in Mecklenburg County. The observance of this month serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about issues relating to housing insecurity and homelessness.

 

As of August 30, 2024, there are 3,169 individuals experiencing homelessness in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. This total includes 1,815 single individuals (of which 146 are unaccompanied youth); and 346 families (comprised of 1,145 people). Included in the total of 3,169 individuals are 180 homeless Veterans, and 753 individuals who are experiencing chronic homelessness.

 

The observance of this month serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about issues relating to housing insecurity and homelessness.
