BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:
May is National Foster Care Month, a time to honor the children and youth who rely on the foster care system and the caregivers, families, and professionals who support them. Foster care provides safety, stability, and hope for young people facing difficult circumstances, and recognizing this month helps bring essential visibility to their journeys.
Every year, thousands of children enter foster care through no fault of their own. They deserve environments where they can heal, grow, and imagine a future filled with possibility. Observing National Foster Care Month underscores the urgent need for supportive foster families and reinforces our shared responsibility to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
This month also invites us to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of foster parents, kinship caregivers, caseworkers, and community partners who work tirelessly to create safe and nurturing homes. Their compassion strengthens families and stabilizes communities.
By recognizing National Foster Care Month, we reaffirm our commitment to improving outcomes for youth in care and building a future where every child can feel safe, supported, and valued.
