BACKGROUND/JUSTIFICATION:

The order of the Long Leaf Pine is among the most prestigious awards presented by the Governor of North Carolina.  The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the State. Contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations are some of the guidelines by which recipients are selected for this award.

As Assistant Health Director in Mecklenburg County’s Preventive Health, Angela provided extraordinary leadership for three of our largest programs that significantly impact the community: Environmental Health; School Health; and our HIV/STI services. These are complex programs, helping to prevent foodborne illnesses and other diseases, staffing 165 schools, and providing services along the spectrum of HIV/STI prevention and care.

As a member of the Executive Team Angela assisted in meeting the challenges of COVID-19, allocating staff to meet new responsibilities, and coordinating clinical staff to provide immunizations in sites accessible to the community.

Her competence, compassion, and commitment to community inclusion has helped Mecklenburg County Public Health earn a reputation as a trusted partner and reliable provider of care.

Angela’s career reflects the best of Public Health professionalism, centered on a commitment to service and an ongoing dedication to addressing health disparities. Her 30 years have helped improve the health of two communities, impacting the overall well-being of the state.
